Friday April 6th

The member of the month for April is, Haley! Haley was originally a member a CrossFit CD before moving to ECCF. She was hesitant at first but now you'll see her at least 4-5 times a week! Some of her most recent accomplishments include: Rx handstand pushups, 48 rx pull-ups in open workout 18.3, and a 190 lb. deadlift! Haley has also been known to do "Annie" regularly after Saturday workouts. Apparently team WODs just aren't enough for her! Next on the list for Haley is getting her first C2B pullup. Keep an eye out for her!

MEMBER OF THE MONTH

Age: 27

Occupation: Audiologist

In general, what is your athletic background? Uh, does high school show choir count? I’ve never been a very athletic human, although I did briefly get really into running during grad school (mostly to offset my poor eating and drinking habits, if I’m being honest).

How did you learn about Emerald City CrossFit (ECCF)? My husband (Ben) googled a nearby crossfit gym and asked if I wanted to go flip tires with him. I didn’t, but after a few months I changed my mind and agreed to give it a shot. We were originally CFCD members and joined ECCF when the two gyms merged last summer.

How has ECCF changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? A LOT. I never thought I’d be able to do a pull-up in my whole life, and yet here we are! I’m way healthier and stronger than I’ve ever been. I still love me some beer and pizza rolls, but the gym definitely helps to balance it all out. And it’s pretty great to spend so much time at a place Ben and I both love!

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through ECCF: I recently conquered some of my most pressing short term goals (woohoo!) so I guess next on the list would be a C2B pull-up, and eventually a bar muscle-up. Not sure if those goals will be long or short term, I’ll keep you posted.

What do you like most about ECCF? I mean, the cliche answer is the most accurate: it’s the people. I truly look forward to coming in and complaining about the workout with everyone, y’all are great.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? I’m a fan of the overhead squat

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? HATE wallballs

Favorite WOD: “Annie”

What are you currently doing to try to improve your nutrition? Eh, no major nutrition goals at the moment. I guess I’d like to stop buying so many sugary Starbucks drinks throughout the week. Ask me this question again when I turn 30!

Favorite movie: I’m not sure I have a favorite... pass

Favorite and/or current book: Harry Potter (book 6 if we’re getting specific)

Favorite music genre/artist: Kanye West, Taylor Swift, and all the early 2000s pop-punk bands

What do you like to do outside the gym? I obviously enjoy spending time with Ben and our crazy dog, watching a lot of TV shows, game nights with friends, reading, going to sleep at 9 o’clock... exciting stuff. I can’t say I’m super outdoorsy, unless you count drinking on our roof, but I’d probably go on a reasonable-length hike if you asked.

In 10 words or less, what does CrossFit mean to you? The best thing to do at 6pm on a weeknight!
