In general, what is your athletic background? I played sports in junior high/high school. I was in Army ROTC in college and did physical training 5 days a week during college. After college I was an officer in the Army; we did physical training 5 days a week. When I got out of the Army, I tried to stay in shape, but it wasn't easy without the military requirement. After 9/11 I volunteered to go to Iraq and I got bad plantar fasciitis running over there. After that injury, I pretty much stopped working out for 8-9 years and got out of shape. When I turned 40, I knew I had to do something for my long term health.
How did you learn about Emerald City CrossFit (ECCF)? A few years back, I went to Atlanta to see one of my buddies from Iraq and he was getting into CrossFit and suggested I try that; he was coming to the same realization that I had - that we needed to take better care of our bodies as we got older! When I got back home, I started searching for local CrossFit boxes and found ECCF.
How has ECCF changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? CrossFit has been very good at finding all of the neglect/weekness in my body. Taking almost a decade off from fitness took a toll. I have had a recurrence of plantar fasciitis, I've had shoulder issues, etc. All of these problems seemed to stem from underlying issues from being inactive and working in front of a computer. ECCF/CrossFit has been great in helping me sort out many of underlying core issues that have prevented my from being a better athlete. I feel younger now after being part of CrossFit.
List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through ECCF: My short term goals are to do a better job at attending CrossFit 3-4 times a week. Recently my day job has gotten in the way of fitness; and I'm working on adjusting priorities to fix this. My current focus is trying to nail those ever elusive double-unders. Long term; I want to continue to get in better shape. Much of that will be improving my eating habits.

What are you currently doing to try to improve your nutrition? I'm going to participate in the Peeled-Onion challenge with Kate starting on Jan 8.

Favorite music genre/artist: Most anything but Country and Western.
What do you like to do outside the gym? Play video games with my son / hang out with family.
