The Member of the Month for November is, Kirsten! Kirsten usually comes to the morning classes! When she isn't doing CrossFit she is out running. The picture below was taken after she qualified for the 2018 Boston Marathon, so watch out on running WODs!  Kirsten always comes in with a smile and an enthusiasm to workout. Next time you see her give a shout out!

Age: 46

Occupation: Stay at home mom (before that I was a 1st grade teacher). I have my run coaching certification through RRCA, and have been coaching one run client for the past year. I just got my USA Triathlon Level 1 Certification, so I’m hoping to get into triathlon coaching. 

In general, what is your athletic background? I did nothing growing up and didn’t start working out until I turned 30. I began with running, and then got into strength training and triathlon.

How did you learn about Emerald City CrossFit (ECCF)? Through Anita LeBlanc who used to work at NW Sports Rehab. 

How has ECCF changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? I credit CrossFit with helping me stay injury free. I think it’s because I’m getting stronger and working through a complete range of motion. Also, I’ve made some great new friends at ECCF!

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through ECCF: I would like to continue working on developing my fast twitch muscles – box jumps are great for me. I also really want to learn how to do double-unders.

What do you like most about ECCF? The people! Everyone is so supportive of one another and friendly. 

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? I actually really like doing squat snatches. They make me feel like a real lifter. 😊

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? Turkish Get Ups

Favorite WOD: Anything that involves KB swings, sit ups, and squats.

What are you currently doing to try to improve your nutrition? I have a huge sweet tooth and have been cutting out desserts. I’m also trying to drink less. 

Favorite music genre/artist: My all-time favorite band is Depeche Mode.

What do you like to do outside the gym? Cook!

In 10 words or less, what does CrossFit mean to you? A community of athletes supporting each other to get stronger.
