Friday October 6th

Starting this month with the "First Friday Newsletter," we will be showcasing an Athlete of the Month! This will give you all the opportunity to get to know one another a little bit more outside of the gym. So let's give it up for the Athlete of the Month for September, Nicole!!

Age: 36
Occupation: Registered Nurse, Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist

In general, what is your athletic background? I have always been athletic. I was a competitive swimmer, played volleyball, boxed, hiked, and CrossFit.

How did you learn about Emerald City CrossFit (ECCF)? It is right in front of my bus stop and very close to my house, so I saw it start up 5 years ago!

How has ECCF changed your life, lifestyle, and level of fitness? I had taken a break from CrossFit and started back in January. I missed lifting heavy stuff, the community, the encouragement and support, the variety of movements, and the conditioning. The coaches and athletes at ECCF challenge me to be better, lift heavier, go faster and I truly appreciate this fantastic gym.

List short/long term goals you would like to accomplish through ECCF: I have been working on double-unders and squats (OHS, front, back, squat clean, squat snatch) for as long as I have done CrossFit (7 years). I would really like to be consistent at DU’s and find a stance that allows me to get more depth while carrying more weight on the bar.

What do you like most about ECCF? The community, both in and out of the gym. The coaches and athletes are kind, funny, encouraging and dedicated.

What is your favorite CrossFit movement? Split jerk

What is your least favorite CrossFit movement? Overhead Squat and Running!

Favorite WOD: Any WOD with rowing. Cindy was my very first WOD, so that one brings back fond memories (couldn’t walk for a few days after!!).

What are you currently doing to try to improve your nutrition? I love to cook and meal prep, but I have been very busy lately and I find it challenging to cook for one (lots of leftovers). So, I am currently trialing Pete’s Paleo and have really enjoyed it so far.

Favorite movie: Tommy Boy

Favorite and/or current book: I like memoirs, especially around WWII. But currently reading Big Little Lies.

Favorite music genre/artist: I like many different music genres. My favorite band is One Republic.

What do you like to do outside the gym? I enjoy traveling, hiking, being on or in any type of water, watching the Seahawks play, target shooting, and sleeping in on the weekends.

In 10 words or less, what does CrossFit mean to you? An hour a day, where I can focus on me!
