I started CrossFit way back in 2008 as a way to supplement my training for trail marathons and trail ultras. At the time I weighed about 160 lbs and couldn't even squat or deadlift my body weight. Weeks after my first CrossFit class I was hooked. I immediately fell in love with the idea of suffering through high intensity training with my community. I haven't run a single race since.

Fast forward 8 years and I'm still in love with the idea of getting fit with my friends. So much of CrossFit has changed its focus to the Open or the Games or a local throw down, but for me it will always be about the daily WOD and the people I get to share the hard earned gains with. Coaching has been an amazing opportunity for me to share that love of community with my athletes and to see them rally behind each other on a daily basis.

I'm a firm believer in putting in the work so you can be active outside of the gym. A CrossFit coach once told me "we play real sports too" and that mentality has stuck with me. Nothing makes me happier than seeing CrossFitters hiking mountains, completing triathlons, playing sports and leading adventurous lives. Outside of CrossFit I play on the Seattle Gaels gaelic football team (think rugby and soccer had a baby), and spend as much time as possible hiking and skiing all over the Pacific Northwest.

If you're weary of trying out CrossFit for the first time, let me just say that Emerald City CrossFit is one of the most diverse and inclusive communities I've ever been a part of. We have members of all shapes and sizes and athletes of all abilities. There IS a place here for you and you'll amaze yourself with the things you can do!
